If there’s one thing I enjoy most when I shoot weddings and portraits, it’s the people I get to meet. Every story told about “how we met” and “how he proposed” never gets old. No matter how similar, or how corny (the best in my opinion), I always feel lucky to hear the story and document it. Funny thing happened recently when my good bud Ralph Alcala invited me on one of his couple’s engagement shoots; I didn’t hear their story. When I meet Claudia and John in front of Royce Hall at UCLA, I didn’t know what to expect. But from afar, I could see Claudia’s smile and I knew it was going a fun shoot. Once they warmed up to the camera their story was written all over their smiling faces. Laughing, smiling, and daring to do anything for the shot! And Mr. Ralph, being the class act that he always is, invited me to jump in and have at it. And so I did. Thank you Mr. Ralph!
A little help from the wind on this shoot made for some neat wind-in-hair-esque shots.
See, I told you they were daring! I think we got brow-beaten by a hall monitor for this shot…
hittin the books…
Every so often, I would catch a glimpse of Claudia or John gazing at one another as they spoke. It’s unmistakable how in love they really are.
Oh the thinks you can think…
Reason #117 why I really liked this hot couple.
Ralph: Claudia, wanna get on the cart?
By the way, in case you haven’t noticed, the architecture of the buildings inside and out are amazing! Not to mention the yummy light pouring into the hallways.
This was literally in a dark corner somewhere behind the Powell Library. Gimme your wallet!
The beautiful Royce Hall. Wasn’t much to look at without Claudia and John in front of it, f’real.
It’s been while since I’ve been on an engagement shoot so I really have to say thanks again to my man Ralph for bringing me along. Aaand a big kudos to Claudia and John for being such great sports and enduring the chilly wind that evening. You guys rock! I can’t wait to shoot their wedding with Ralph and I’m sure that’ll be loads of fun too.
