Dancing the Salsa & Ballet Recitals

I swear, I’m going to start carrying mini marshmallows, squeaky toys and blueberries when I do family shoots because that’s what the kids are hip to these days. What?  They’ve always liked that stuff?  Well, my son loves broccoli, seriously it’s the only thing we can proudly (and truthfully) convey to his pediatrician for his annual check ups.  Lucky us.  In the past few weeks I’ve had my share of family shoots that could drive the average person insane, but as I’m told by family, I was worse.  Times 10.  So I think I have an internal defense mechanism that releases potent endorphins to numb it out.  At least, that’s what I tell myself.  It’s really called patience, and it pays off.  Trust me…

When it was time to shoot the Alcalde family for this years’ Christmas pictures I came ready.  Ready for silly faces and crazy dancing, and I got the very best of both!  And don’t let Alexa’s shy expression fool you, oh no, she’s quite the character!

We started the shoot short one kid because those car rides can be tough you know.  Mommy Monica and daddy Poncho huggin it up while Mia’s catchin some Zz’s near by.

Mia, is the baby of the family yet the head of the family.  Catch my drift?

I accidentally started humming a song and noticed that Mia started bobbing her head to it, then Monica turned it up a notch singing her favorite song and Mia broke out dancing salsa.  Like a light switch, good song, and dancing baby coming through!

Peek-a-boo!

Oh yeah, so, Monica and Poncho never really grew up.  So, what? I never did either…

The Alcalde’s bring the fist bump to a whole new level, they combine powers to become the Fabulous Fist Bumpers!  I tried…

In theory, this should of worked with all of them in the air but you know, if you were to see a squirrel you’d look too…

Ballerina in disguise.  Alexa invited me to her first recital, come to think of it, it’ll be my first recital too! I mean, my first ballet recital that I’ve ever attended, like, to go, not perform! You know what I mean…

We’ve ALL had these days.

Alexa was not making fun of me because I wear glasses, at least I think she wasn’t.  Photographing families is a challenge.  The logistics of getting to the shoot are mind boggling for the family, and getting everyone to look at the camera just once is daunting.  But in the end, the memories are simply worth every ounce of effort.  Looking back at family pictures, we will remember how hard it was to get the kids in the car, go back because someone left a shoe, bring snacks to feed the animals (a.k.a. kids) and try to force out a smile.  I know it, I go through it too with my family!  But the pictures of the twirls, the fingers in the mouth to make an ugly face, the crying, the crossed eyes, the nose picking, the horse play, and the lollygagging makes us laugh our hearts out.  So, if you ever have me take your family pictures there’s no need to apologize for your family’s behavior, because it’s that behavior that will remind you of all your most cherished memories.  Tear…

Monica - I LOVE IT!!!
